Purpose and OverviewSarcoidosis is a multisystem, granulomatous inflammatory disease that can affect the heart. Cardiac sarcoid is a leading cause of death in patients with sarcoidosis and is widely under-recognized by many providers who encounter these patients first in clinical practice. This is likely due to subclinical or asymptomatic cardiac involvement. Historically it was thought that cardiac sarcoidosis affected 5% of patients with systemic sarcoid, however, with advanced cardiac imaging and autopsy data the prevalence is on the order of 25-40%.
