Morgan Deal, M.D.

Dr. Morgan Deal is a forensic psychiatrist and Senior Clinical Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He works at the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), providing treatment to individuals with severe and persistent mental disorders in residential treatment programs while conducting forensic assessments. Before his position at the CDOC, Dr. Deal treated individuals with severe and refractory mental disorders within the Colorado state hospital system. He participated in the American Psychiatric Association (APA)’s Judges and Psychiatrists Leadership Initiative and later served as a psychiatric trainer for judges and lawyers. Additionally, Dr. Deal is a member of the APA’s Council on Psychiatry and Law (CPL) and co-chairs CPL’s correctional psychiatry workgroup. In 2025, Dr. Deal was awarded the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL)'s Charles Dike Scholarship and was appointed as one of APA's Cal Adviser expert consultants to the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH). He completed his medical degree and residency training at The University of Texas McGovern Medical School, followed by a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado. Dr. Deal is board-certified in both general and forensic psychiatry.
