Bernard Le Foll, MD, PhD, MCFP (AM) FCAHS

Dr. Bernard Le Foll is a clinician-scientist specializing in drug addiction. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Paris-Sud in France and completed postdoctoral training in behavioral pharmacology and brain imaging within the intramural program of the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Le Foll serves as the Lead of Addiction Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. He is also the Chair of Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, where he is a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Family and Community Medicine, and Pharmacology and Toxicology. Additionally, he holds the role of Vice-President, Research and Academics, and Chief Scientific Officer at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.
His multidisciplinary research focuses on understanding the neurobiology of addiction and developing novel therapeutic strategies. He leads the Translational Addiction Research Laboratory within the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute at CAMH. Over the course of his career, Dr. Le Foll has secured more than 100 research grants totally more than 48 million dollars, and published over 350 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
In addition to his research, Dr. Le Foll has held various medical leadership roles at CAMH, including mentoring clinician-scientists within the Addiction Division. He has served as an advisor to multiple agencies, contributed to clinical guidelines, influenced policy, and provided expert testimony on addiction-related issues before the Canadian Senate and House of Commons. Most recently, he was appointed to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
