Emily Dow, Professor and Residency Program Director

Dr. Emily Dow has served as the Director of the UC Irvine Family Medicine Residency Program since 2018, and has worked in various roles since joining UCI’s Department of Family Medicine in 2000. Her career focus has been caring for the socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in inner city and urban medically underserved areas since finishing her residency at Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 1995. Her current practice is at UCI Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center in Santa Ana which also houses the resident continuity clinic. Dr. Dow’s interest in caring for Down syndrome patients as well as other intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals is a result of the perceived need for adult primary care as they transitioned out of pediatric care from the Children’s Hospital of Orange County which is located in close proximity to the UCI Family Health Center. She started a Down Syndrome Clinic in 2016 as well as bilingual Down Syndrome group medical visits which are currently on hold due to the pandemic.
