Eugene Harper, MD

Eugene Paul Harper, MD is a chief clinical fellow in Infectious Diseases at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
He completed Internal Medicine residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he worked on the C. Difficile Diagnostic Stewardship QI Group and was awarded the Jimmy Moss Community Service Award for his work with underserved populations in local safety-net clinics. Dr. Harper currently serves on the Antibiotic Management Program committee at MSK. He graduated from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2018 he rotated with the CDC Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch, working on multi-state foodborne Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks. Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Harper served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantry Squad Leader, completing two combat deployments to Iraq.
Dr. Harper has published research in collaboration with other physicians and CDC on the efficacy of antitoxin therapy in treatment of foodborne botulism in Clinical Infectious Diseases. His collaborative work in Quality was recently published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality & Outcomes and was awarded the 2022 MCSGME Quality Improvement Award. Dr. Harper’s research interests include diagnostic stewardship, antimicrobial resistance patterns among gram-negative organisms, and epidemiology of foodborne and waterborne diseases.
