Summary: 

Narrative Medicine, as a discipline, hones the medical practitioner's skills in attention, representation, and affiliation through creativity. The practitioner is better able to recognize elements of each person's Illness Narrative and position on the arc of the Hero's Journey and, thus, provide more insightful care. The session will review these concepts and challenge participants to integrate narrative concepts into their work.

By the end of the session, the participant will:

-Discuss the concepts of narrative medicine

-Describe the impact Illness Narratives have on how patients and surgeons view their roles

-Apply steps to integrate narrative concepts into their practice
