Purpose and Content

To educate medical staff on the issues of patient assaults of psychiatric hospital staff.

Target Audience

This program is appropriate for physicians and other health care providers involved in the care and treatment of patients in a psychiatric hospital or other healthcare facility.

Educational Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

1. Identify predisposing factors of assaultive patients

2. Discuss potential precipitating factors in the milieu

3. Identify and review treatment options for the agitated patient
