Abstract: Conflict in medical decision-making for pediatric patients may arise between any combination of healthcare team members, parents and other family members, and the child themselves, and from a variety of sources including diasagreement over what is in the child's best interest, miscommunication, distrust, and misaligned goals of care. In this talk, Dr. Derrington will explore the ethical complexities of shared decision-making in pediatrics, using case examples to demonstrate the value of relational ethics, narrative ethics, and cultural and epistemic humility to navigate and resolve conflict in ways that honor the personhood of the child and support the flourishing of the family and the healthcare team.
