Omonele Nwokolo, MD
Omonele Nwokolo M.D. is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair in the department of Anesthesiology at McGovern Medical School Houston, TX. She graduated from McGovern Medical School in 2006, remained for residency eventually joining the faculty in 2010. Dr. Nwokolo has served in multiple leadership roles including: Chief of Service for the Acute Pain Management Service; Assistant Residency Program Director; Junior Residency and Oral Board Course Director. Dr. Nwokolo was the Assistant Chief of Anesthesiology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital from 2014- 2020. In this position, she was heavily involved in quality improvement projects, organization structure for efficiency in the perioperative areas. She is also involved in the regional and acute pain management services, teaching non-Anesthesiology Residents. Dr. Nwokolo transitioned from this role to become the Operating Room Director at Memorial Hermann Hospital. In the role she manages over 70 daily operating rooms locations at a busy level one trauma center. Dr. Nwokolo is also very involved with outreach with multiple mission trips to Central America and South East Asia. Currently, Dr. Nwokolo serves as the inaugural Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion. In this role, she teaches the members of the department, the medical students, as well as the managers and directors of the hospital partners about implicit bias, and guidelines to manage these behaviors. She has been an invited speaker on these topics leading forums on Gender and Sexual Harassment, Social Justice and is becoming the voice of equity in the department.
