Maya Hastie, Professor of Anesthesiology at Columbia University
Dr. Maya Jalbout Hastie is a Professor of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She serves as the Vice Chair for Education in the department of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Hastie is a graduate of the American University of Beirut School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center and a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Hastie joined the faculty at Columbia University in the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology in 2005. She serves on several committees in Columbia and in the US to advance medical education, professional development, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the workplace.
Dr. Hastie holds a Doctorate in Education in Adult Learning and Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University, with a focus on leadership development. Her primary interests are in faculty development and leadership. She is active in national societies as an advocate for the advancement of the careers of women physicians, and the promotion of diversity and inclusivity in medicine. She’s a board member of the Women in Cardiothoracic anesthesia group at the SCA, and the immediate past chair of Leadership Advisory Board at the AUA.
