Dusica Bajic, MD, PhD
Dr. Dusica Bajic is an esteemed Associate Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School and a Senior Associate in Perioperative Anesthesia, Boston Children’s Hospital. She earned her MD from the University of Belgrade Medical School in Serbia and her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Bajic's postdoctoral training is extensive and includes: (1) a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, (2) Anesthesia Residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale University, and (3) a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard University, where she has been a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist and physician-scientist since 2008.
Dr. Bajic’s groundbreaking work in the neurobiology of opioid effects has pioneered the use of neuroimaging tools to study pain and sedation management in infancy. Her research focuses on the complex interactions between anesthesia, pain management, and brain development in young patients. In her lecture, she will explore two critical areas: (1) the effects of anesthesia on healthy children, and (2) the allostatic load of disease, repeated anesthesia, and prolonged sedation exposure in critically ill infants, and its impact on the developing brain.
