ForwardMatt O'Hara, Ph.D.
Matt O’Hara is Professor in the History Department at U.C. Santa Cruz, where he also serves as Provost of Cowell and Stevenson Colleges. He received his Ph.D. in History from the University of California, San Diego in 2003. His research has been funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Tinker Foundation. He is the author and editor of numerous books and journal articles, including the forthcoming narrative history, The Flying Death: Poison, Plunder and the Quest for a Miracle Medicine in the Amazon (FSG/Macmillan, 2026).
