Kathryn Berlacher, MD, MS

Dr. Katie Berlacher received her MD from The Ohio State University and completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, serving as both chief resident and chief fellow. She was appointed to faculty in 2012 after focusing on both Women’s Health and Medical Education, earning her Masters Degree in Medical Education in 2013. She has served as the IM subspecialty education coordinator of cardiology since 2012 and the Program Director of the Cardiovascular fellowship program since 2015. Dr. Berlacher regularly lectures and facilitates small group learning for the School of Medicine. In 2021, she was named Associate Chief of Education for the UPMC Heart Vascular Institute, leading educational efforts across the service line. Dr. Berlacher has also excelled as an administrative leader, serving as the Director of the Magee Womens Heart Program, developing one of the most robust cardio-obstetric programs in the nation. Additionally, she was recently appointed to serve as Chief of Medicine at the Magee Womens Hospital. Nationally, she has held numerous leadership positions for the American College of Cardiology including chair of the society’s leading education committee, as well as the Governor of the ACC Pennsylvania state chapter. She was named as Vice Chair of ACC’s annual scientific sessions for 2023 and 2024 and will continue on as Chair of the meeting in 2025 and 2026. She has mentored and sponsored medical students, residents, fellows and faculty both locally and across the nation, inspiring many into the field of cardiology as well as medical education, highlighting the importance of equity and inclusion throughout her career. Finally, she is a well published women's cardiology and cardio-obstetric expert, in addition to consistently publishing in the medical education and training space.
