KYAWT SHWIN
Dr. Shwin received her training in internal medicine in New York at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. She completed her fellowship in Rheumatology at the National Institutes of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases and the National Institutes of Health (NIH/ NIAMS). Her research at the NIH was related to biopsy-based immune cell studies and adenosine related analysis with focus on patients with vasculitis and vasculopathy including monogenic interferon- and interleukin-1-mediated diseases. Dr Shwin is a faculty of Internal Medicine in the Division of Rheumatic Diseases at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and the VA North Texas HealthCare System.
Dr. Shwin currently co-directs the vasculitis clinic at Dallas VA Medical Center managing different types of vasculitis and other inflammatory rheumatic diseases including inflammatory eye diseases, myositis. She is actively involved in scholarly activities, mentoring fellows, and residents in their research. Their recent work on GCA conducted at Dallas VA Medical Center was presented at the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology EULAR meeting in 2021. Study related to image use and medication management in GCA will be presented at ACR convergence 2022 on November 13, 2022. Dr Shwin and her team is working establishing interdisciplinary approach to answer research questions and improving patient care.
