Krutika Kuppalli, MD
Dr. Krutika Kuppalli, MD, FIDSA is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Southwestern and holds a secondary appointment at the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health. Her work centers on emerging pathogens, global health, and pandemic preparedness. She has held leadership roles in major global outbreaks, including serving as Medical Director of an Ebola Treatment Unit in Sierra Leone during the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak and playing a key role in the WHO’s COVID-19 and mpox responses. During her time at WHO, she led the development of clinical and public health guidance, contributed to outbreak response missions, and helped shape international policy and practice on pandemic threats.
Dr. Kuppalli has advised domestic and foreign governments and global health bodies, contributed to high-level U.S. Congressional hearings, and played a leadership role in global health organizations including IDSA and ASTMH. She has conducted research and clinical work across multiple countries, with a focus on strengthening health systems and optimizing care in resource-limited settings. A widely recognized expert, she is frequently featured in national and international media and has received honors including NPR’s Source of the Week and Elemental’s “50 Experts to Trust in a Pandemic.”
