Maria Buethe, MD, PhD, FAAD

Maria Gnarra Buethe, MD, PhD, is a double-board-certified dermatologist and pediatric dermatologist. She serves as the Founding Division Chief of Dermatology at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and Director of Pediatric Dermatology at the University of California, Irvine. She also directs the Vascular Anomalies Program and the Pediatric Dermatology-Rheumatology Clinic at CHOC.
Dr. Buethe earned her PhD in vascular anomalies, and her clinical and academic work focuses on complex pediatric dermatology, including vascular anomalies, genodermatoses, inflammatory skin disease, and multidisciplinary care for children with systemic disease. She is actively involved in clinical research, with work supported by grants from major national organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance. She also serves as an investigator on several phase II and phase III clinical trials in pediatric dermatology.
