David Willcutts, M.D.

I am a trilingual native Texan who is currently a 3rd year pediatric gastroenterology fellow at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center. I graduate from the University of Notre Dame undergraduate and I have completed all of my medical training this far at U.T. Southwestern. I will be pursuing pediatric transplant hepatology fellowship next year at the Children's Hospital of Colorado. Early on in G.I. fellowship I discovered a passion for the variety and complexity of pediatric hepatology patients, and find the continuity of care and report-building formed with transplant patients and their families to be very fulfilling, thanks in no small part to the mentorship of Dr. Amal Aqul and Dr. John Andersen. A key aspect of my career has been training to care for patients with Cystic Fibrosis (C.F.) under Dr. Meghana Sathe as well as many others, and this led me to become and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Clinical Fellowship Training Grant recipient. Through my time spent caring for children with C.F., particularly in the era of highly effective modulator therapy, I have found a specific calling within pediatric transplant hepatology to work on better understanding the causes, consequences, and monitoring of C.F. Liver disease. That being said I find general pediatric hepatology fascinating, and my other interests include bile acid metabolism and regulation and pediatric liver transplant. Long-term, I hope to create a career of caring for pediatric hepatology patients, and, if I am so lucky, to conduct research that adds to what we understand about CFLD and how we can treat it.
