Dawn Sears, MD, FACG
Dawn Sears, MD, FACG is a Clinical Professor in the division of Gastroenterology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She has previously served as Chief of Gastroenterology at Baylor Scott & White, Temple and Central Texas Veterans Administration. She currently serves as gastroenterologist, hepatologist and physician coach at the North Texas Veterans Administration Division of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Sears earned her medical degree at Texas A&M College of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. She stayed on staff for 20 years and served as Program Director, Division Director, President of Clinical Staff Organization, board member on BSWHQA Board of Managers, system Medical Director of Wellness and was a very active of the faculty and community.
Under Dr. Sears' leadership she expanded the fellowship program, secured a simulator, initiated capsule endoscopy, fecal microbial transplant, point of care transient elastography, trained over a dozen APPs to perform at the highest levels of their license in complex liver and IBD specialty clinics, cured over 2,000 patients of hepatitis C and led a very busy service through the COVID crisis with remarkable engagement and retention. She continues to be an active endoscopist and clinician with the highest Press-Ganey scores and served as an expert on numerous committees. She has been active in clinical research and anti-burnout program development. She has been the recipient of internal and external grant funding for community health education, burnout prevention in trainees, wellbeing conferences, women in medicine program development and has been the recipient of numerous awards from AMWA, AMA and TAMU COM.
Recent years, Dr. Sears has been on dozens of podcasts, served on many Women in Medicine and trainee advocacy panels and has been a regular key note speaker nationally and internationally. She speaks, writes, blogs and published on parental leave, gender disparities in medicine, life-work balance, negotiations, elevator pitch, executive presence and career pivots. She runs national conferences with the goal to "stop the hemorrhaging of women physicians from healthcare" and is a ICF certified coach who leads numerous cohorts and individual coaching programs for societies, healthcare organizations and individuals.
