Prapti Mody, PhD

I am a scientist with a neuroscience-focused research background who switched career paths to take up an administrative and communications role at the Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I graduated with a PhD in Molecular Biology in 2019. My dissertation explored the impact of cytomegalovirus (a herpesvirus) infection on Alzheimer's disease markers in neuronal cells. Subsequently, I completed a 2-year PostDoc in Neuroimmunology during which I worked on translational & pre-clinical projects focused on pain and neuroinflammation in aging.
As Program Manager for Bioinformatics, I led several departmental programs related to Internal Grants, NIH Centers established from collaborative institutional grants, educational initiatives for making bioinformatics and computational biology softwares accessible to the broader non-informatics scientific community at UTSW, and served as liaison for Bioinformatics with UTSW's Faculty Advisory Board. My job duties included science communication, scientific review of grants and manuscripts, website and graphic design, administration of topic-based nanocourses, strategic marketing and branding, enabling new initiatives & collaborations, and being an overall resource for our department faculty.
I am now Director of Graduate Education Initiatives with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Southwestern. I lead the expansion of the nanocourses program, graduate student and postdoc recruitment and engagement initiatives, and liaise with Institutional Opportunity to offer Implicit Bias trainings to UTSW personnel. I also co-lead a voluntary Ethics in AI group and serve as a guest speaker for various courses, offices, and departments at UTSW on AI, responsible use of AI, and related topics.
