Michelle Sandoval Cabanas, MD

Michelle Sandoval Cabanas, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and cares for patients across the lifespan. In addition to her clinical work, she is actively involved in graduate medical education and serves as Core Clinical Faculty and Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee for the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program.
Dr. Sandoval Cabanas earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico. She completed her combined residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she also served as Chief Resident. She joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 2023.
Dr. Sandoval Cabanas’ academic interests center on medical education, with a particular focus on improving feedback literacy among both learners and faculty. Her work seeks to enhance how feedback is given, received, and incorporated into professional growth, with the goal of creating more effective and meaningful learning environments. She is also committed to the education and mentorship of residents and to supporting the development of physicians who care for patients across the transition from childhood to adulthood.
When she’s not working, Dr. Sandoval Cabanas enjoys running, spending time outdoors, and keeping up with her husband, two children, and two dogs.
