Kevin Courtney, MD, PhD
I am a medical oncologist with clinical expertise in genitourinary (GU) cancers. As a clinical and translational scientist, my research focuses on prostate cancer and kidney cancer. I have received extensive basic science training in molecular biology and cell signaling through my PhD and post-doctoral fellowship. I received additional advanced training in clinical research as a Clinical Scholar in the Clinical Research Scholars Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center, from which I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Sciences. I have ongoing projects in cancer metabolism involving patients and patient tumor samples to identify unique aspects of tumor metabolism in kidney cancer and prostate cancer. Concomitantly, I have built a strong clinical practice in genitourinary oncology. I also am the principal investigator of investigator-initiated clinical trials in prostate and kidney cancer. I serve as the site principal investigator for cooperative-group sponsored and industry-sponsored clinical trials. I am the Director of Genitourinary Medical Oncology in the Division of Hematology / Oncology. I am co-leader of the UTSW Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center Genitourinary Oncology Disease Oriented Team, and I am an active member of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group - American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ECOG-ACRIN) GU Committee. I am a co-leader of one of the three projects of the UTSW Kidney Cancer SPORE.
