Charles Zeanah

Dr. Zeanah is Mary Peters Sellars-Polchow Chair in Psychiatry and Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He also directs the Institute of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health at Tulane. Throughout his career, his clinical and research focus has been on early experiences and their effects, especially for children who have experienced trauma or deprivation, and he has published widely on these topics. He is co-author, with Charles Nelson and Nathan Fox, of Romania’s Abandoned Children: Deprivation and the Struggle for Recovery. He is also the Editor of all 4 editions of the Handbook of Infant Mental Health, and he chaired the Task Force that wrote DC:0-5, Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood. He is an emeritus board member of Zero to Three. Dr. Zeanah is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
