Priti Balchandani, PhD
Dr. Balchandani is a Professor of Radiology and Director of Advanced Neuroimaging Research at the Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is also the Co-Director of the Center for Engineering and Precision Medicine (CEPM), the first joint center between Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Her research has been focused on bridging the gap between advanced electrical engineering techniques and medical imaging applications. She develops techniques to visualize fine structural detail as well as vasculature, microstructure, metabolism and tissue biomechanical properties in order to provide a highly precise, multifaceted view of the effects of diseases and disorders on the brain. She has applied this to improving epilepsy treatment, guiding brain tumor surgery and in revealing the underlying mechanisms for depression. She is also the co-director of the new PhD program in Health Sciences Engineering jointly offered by ISMMS and RPI. Dr. Balchandani received her BASc in computer engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada and her PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford University.
