Edore Onigu-Otite, MD
Biosketch: Edore Onigu-Otite, MD, MPH Candidate
Dr. Edore Onigu-Otite is a triple-board-certified psychiatrist in General, Child & Adolescent, and Addiction Psychiatry and a Full Professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. She is the founding Medical Director of the Pediatric Addiction Clinic at Ben Taub, where she provides trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate care for adolescents with substance use disorders. Dr. Onigu-Otite received her medical degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, followed by residency training in General Psychiatry and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed additional fellowship training in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Before joining Baylor in 2014, she served as Medical Director of the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her academic work focuses on adolescent addiction, prenatal drug exposure, ACEs, and motivational interviewing in medical settings. She is a dedicated educator and curriculum developer, co-editing the textbook Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences: An Introduction for Clinical Learners and contributing to creating an online active learning module in psychiatry. She has received multiple faculty excellence awards and is a member of the Texas Teen Vaping Task Force. Dr. Onigu-Otite actively contributes to clinical training, research, and continuing education, focusing on pediatric substance use and mental health.
