Elena Ivleva, Associate Professor, Psychiatry
Elena I. Ivleva, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She serves as the Director of the Early Psychosis Clinical and Research Program. In her research and clinical practice, Dr. Ivleva specializes on schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders.
Dr. Ivleva earned her M.D. (Magna Cum Laude) and Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the Voronezh State Medical Academy in Russia. She completed a residency in psychiatry, and subsequently led her own research program in neurophysiologic mechanisms of mood disorders at the same medical school. Dr. Ivleva also completed postdoctoral research fellowships in molecular genetics of schizophrenia at Kobe University, Japan, and in translational neuroscience research in schizophrenia at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She subsequently completed her second residency in psychiatry (research track) at UT Southwestern. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Ivleva joined the UT Southwestern psychiatry faculty in 2012.
Dr. Ivleva is a dedicated physician-scientist in the field of neurobiological psychosis research. Her investigations are focused on understanding mechanisms of psychotic disorders and developing human in vivo biomarkers using multimodal brain imaging and cognition measures. Dr. Ivleva’s research has been supported by NIMH, Brain & Behavior Research Foundation/NARSAD, and the American Psychiatric Association. She has been a recipient of the NIMH K23 Award (2014-2019), several Awards from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation [Young Investigator Award (2010-2012), Baer Award for Innovative Research in Schizophrenia (2011) and Klerman Prize Honorable Mention for Exceptional Research in Clinical Brain and Behavior Science (2014)], and the American Psychiatric Association APF/Kepmf Fund Award for Research Development in Psychobiological Psychiatry (2011). She has also been a co-investigator on multiple NIMH and foundation grants. Dr. Ivleva is an author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters and an editor of two books. Dr. Ivleva is an invited reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Schizophrenia Bulletin, Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging and several other academic journals. She is a member of the IEPA Early Intervention in Mental Health Society, the Schizophrenia International Research Society, Society for Neuroscience, and the American Psychiatric Association, among other professional organizations.
