Elizabeth M. Hecht, MD, FSAR, FACR, FISMRM
Elizabeth M. Hecht, MD, is Professor of Radiology and Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY. She attended medical school at Albert Einstein Medical College in the Bronx, NY andcompleted her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Weill Cornell and a Body MRI/Cardiovascular fellowship at New York University. She served as Professor at Columbia University Medical Center from 2011-2020 and Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania (2009-2011) and New York University (2003-2009). Her current research interests include liver and pancreatic cancer imaging and clinical translation of new MRI technology. Dr. Hecht has co-authored over 140 publications and delivered over 150 national and international lectures. She is passionate about supporting faculty development through education and mentorship.
She was co-founder of the Alliance of Leaders in Academic Affairs in Radiology, a special interest group of the Association of University Radiologists and served as its inaugural Chair from 2021-2023. She is the co-chair of the Management and International working groups of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) and co-chair of the Society of Abdominal Radiology’s (SAR) pancreas adenocarcinoma focused panel. She formerly served as Associate Editor for the American Journal of Radiology (AJR) and Deputy editor for the Journal of Magnetic Resonance in Imaging and now oversees review articles and CME for JMRI. She served as a board member of the Society of MR Angiography from 2017 to 2021 and is currently a board member and senior fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). She is co-founder and Chair of the Body MRI study group for ISMRM with the mission to evaluate new technologies and contrast agents for MR imaging of the abdomen and pelvis, facilitate relevant research, education, and technical developments that will positively impact patient care.
