Dale Butler, MD MBA FACS
Dale Butler, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in chest wall injury management and rib fracture fixation.
Dr. Butler earned his medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed a residency in general surgery at UT Southwestern and gained advanced training in trauma surgery and surgical critical care through a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.
Dr. Butler is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an associate member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Chest Wall Injury Society.
He has written articles in peer-reviewed journals related to his areas of interest and serves as a reviewer for multiple journals.
Dr. Butler is the former head of the General Surgery Department at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He also served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a trauma surgeon in Afghanistan, for which he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat – “C” – Device.
