Michael VanPelt, Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

As an esteemed Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. VanPelt has demonstrated unparalleled expertise in the surgical treatment of foot and ankle sports injuries, trauma, and reconstruction, serving adolescent and adult patients with dedication and precision.
Dr. Van Pelt earned his doctoral degree in podiatric medicine from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin Health Science Center. He completed a three-year comprehensive Podiatric medicine and surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. His commitment to advancing his knowledge and skill earned him a one-year sports medicine fellowship at Barry University in Miami, FL, further highlighting his commitment to excellence in his field. He has recently obtained a master’s degree in health administration at the University of North Texas Health Science Center while maintaining his clinical practice and leadership commitments. He served as the President of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association for the 2024- 2025 year and has led the Foot & Ankle section in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2021. He served as a board member for the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and he continues to serve on the board examination committee. He is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, demonstrating his breadth of expertise and capacity to tackle complex cases.
