Mohammed Akhtar, MD PHD

Dr. M. Zeeshan Akhtar is a hepatopancreaticobiliary and transplant surgeon and faculty member at the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute at Mount Sinai, New York. His clinical and research interests span liver transplantation alongside complex HPB surgery, with particular expertise in machine perfusion, organ preservation. He leads a translational research program focused on advancing perfusion technology to expand the utilisation of marginal donor organs and improve transplant outcomes. Alongside his clinical and laboratory work, Dr. Akhtar is committed to building transplant infrastructure internationally and to training the next generation of transplant surgeons and scientists.
