Dr. Bedimo is Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section at the VA North Texas Health Care System, where he runs a clinic of about 1000 people living with HIV.  He's also Clinical Research Site Leader for the AIDS Clinical Trials Group.  His other professional activities included Member of the DHHS Antiretroviral Treatment Guidelines Committee, Board of Director of the American Conference for the Treatment of HIV, member of the IDSA research committee, and past President of the national VA Specialty Providers in Infectious Diseases (VASPID).  

With the success of antiretroviral therapy and improved survival of HIV patients, non-AIDS – and especially age-related – complications are becoming the greatest cause of morbidity and mortality.  These have been the focus of his research, including: 1) Analysis of the trends of Non-AIDS-defining malignancies among HIV-infected patients, and analysis of factors associated with increased risk.  2)Analysis of risk factors and predictors of cardiovascular disease among HIV-infected patients: role of antiretroviral therapy. 3) Analysis of risk factors and predictors of bone mineral loss among HIV-infected patients: role of antiretroviral therapy and co-infection with chronic hepatitis C (HCV). 

He served for 9 years as the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  With the growing concern about a dwindling number of applicants for Infectious Diseases training, he's committed to working on programs and advocacy aimed at expanding the pool of quality trainees in the field of Infectious Diseases and the training and continuous education of physicians and/or mid-level providers in Infectious Diseases and HIV care.​
