Robert striker, MD/PhD, Associate Prof of Medicine and Medical Microbiology and Immunology

I graduated from Purdue University in Chemistry and was admitted to the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) at WashUSTL.
My PhD was with Scott Hultgren on uropathogenic E coli and pilus assembly and function. I did an Internal Medicine Residency at California Pacific in San Francisco just as combination ART was being introduced and was blown away by the dramatic change in health that effective HIV suppression allowed. I did my Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Stanford working on antivirals for Hepatitis C Virus. When I started my faculty position I continued to work on investigational and current HCV therapy. My current interests are in the uneven immune recovery that occurs once therapy for HIV is started and how clinical care could be tailored based on how well or poorly the immune system is doing in both HIV and transplant patients.
