Julio Alvarenga Thiebaud, MD
Julio Alvarenga Thiebaud, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in blood cancers and stem cell transplantation.
Dr. Alvarenga Thiebaud earned his medical degree at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras and completed a residency in radiation oncology and internal medicine at Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI in Mexico City. After relocating to the U.S., he completed a separate residency in internal medicine at Bridgeport Hospital in the Yale New Haven Health System, followed by fellowships in hematology and oncology at Howard University Hospital and the Temple University School of Medicine. He received further advanced training in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy through a fellowship at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California.
Board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology, Dr. Alvarenga Thiebaud joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.
He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy.
Dr. Alvarenga Thiebaud's clinical and research interests include acute leukemia, immune effector cell therapies for blood cancers, and stem cell transplantation. He seeks to improve access to stem cell transplantation and other cellular therapies in older patients, minorities, and patients with refractory blood cancers.
