Daniel Maxwell, M.D.

Daniel Maxwell, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in infectious diseases and critical care medicine.
Dr. Maxwell earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident in 2017. Following deployment as a Command Surgeon in the U.S. Army and stateside work in emergency medicine, he served as an Aurora Fellow at Yambio State Hospital in South Sudan. He then returned to UT Southwestern and gained advanced training through fellowships in infectious disease and critical care medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in infectious disease, critical care medicine, and internal medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. He also has clinical and research roles at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Maxwell’s clinical and research interests include infectious disease and critical care medicine; military medicine, including operational and aeromedical flight surgeon roles; global health; and medical devices and biomedical engineering. He has delivered several presentations, contributed to the book Fishman’s Pulmonary Diseases and Disorders, and published several academic articles related to his areas of expertise.
In 2018, he earned a Meritorious Service Medal for his achievements during his military deployment.
