EM1603J " Rheumatology in the Omics’ Era" (IM GR-032516)

This lecture will cover recent advances in the use of genomic approaches, especially gene expression profiling, to better understand the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases. With a focus on Juvenile Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Dr. Pascual will discuss how these approaches led to:

  1. the discovery of therapeutic targets and biomarkers to treat and/or follow patients in the clinic;
  2. the uncovering of the molecular heterogeneity that underlies these diseases and represents the basis for personalized treatments.

Target Audience

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Understand disease pathogenesis
  • Identify therapeutic targets
  • Identify disease-specific biomarkers
