Overview

The purpose of the talk is to provide the most up to date information about vitamin D and its use in the management of osteoporosis. The talk with demonstrate the dilemmas that face clinicians concerning vitamin D testing, the evidence for and against its supplemental use and risks of high dose replacement.

Target Audience

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Understand the physiology of vitamin D
  • Determine which evidence if any supports vitamin D supplementation in chronic diseases
  • Clarify the dosing schedules for vitamin D in osteoporosis and fall prevention
