The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the utility of coronary artery calcium scoring in cardiovascular risk assessment and its potential role in shared-decision making between clinicians and patients in the primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Describe the association of coronary artery calcification with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
- Recognize the importance of the absence of coronary artery calcium
- Understand the potential role of coronary artery calcium in primary prevention and shared decision making under the current paradigm of the 2013 ACC/AHA guidelines
- Identify areas for future investigation of coronary artery calcium scoring as it relates to cardiovascular disease risk
