SRC's Spine Symposium 2026 (JS2601B)
During the one-day educational course, current treatment and research activities related to pediatric spine deformity commonly seen will be presented/discussed. This course will provide updates on the latest state-of-art treatment options for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of pediatric spinal deformities and introduce new and innovative treatment options through research activities at Scottish Rite for Children (SRC). Lectures utilizing PowerPoint presentations from the invited speaker, SRC staff and fellows and UTSW residents will be followed by case presentations and discussion. Ample time will be allowed for audience participation during the question-and-answer portion of the meeting. This educational event is appropriate for orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, family practitioners, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses and other allied health professionals with interest in pediatric orthopedic spinal conditions.

Learning Objectives
- Identify and discuss the unique attributes of scoliosis in patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
- Recognize surgical approaches for managing poor bone density and determine criteria for pelvic fixation in marginal ambulators and patients with severe osteogenesis imperfecta.
- Identify the increased risks of surgical treatment for neuromuscular scoliosis and evaluate strategies—at both the individual surgeon and institutional levels—to mitigate these risks.
- Discuss surgical solutions to adequately address spinal deformities associated with congenital scoliosis
- Compare and contrast decision making tools on use of early onset scoliosis growing strategies vs prolonged observation and single surgical episode of care.
