TeamSTEPPS: Teamwork and Communication During COVID-19 Response (RP2007B)

TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based set of teamwork tools, aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among health care professionals. Team training programs have been shown to improve attitudes, increase knowledge, and improve behavioral skills. As team structures have shifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a common language and clear guidelines are needed to facilitate communication in order to assure high quality patient care. This online course will present teamwork tools from the TeamSTEPPS toolbox, as well as overview of the Debrief framework.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the impact of errors, why they occur and how teamwork and communication can reduce errors.
  2. Describe 2 situations in which communication barriers may exist while caring for patients with COVID-19 infections.
  3. Identify 2 tools that may be used to effectively overcome these communication barriers while caring for patients with COVID-19 infection.
  4. Describe 2 elements of the debriefing framework.
