EM1901C "Diagnostic Errors: How to Help Write a New Chapter in Patient Safety Improvement“ (IM GR-011119)

Research suggests that 1 in 20 US adults have a misdiagnosis every year. Presented by an internationally recognized leader in patient safety, this session will discuss foundational concepts to understand diagnostic errors, their contributing factors, and how to measure and address diagnostic missed opportunities in current electronic health record (EHR)-enabled healthcare settings. It will also discuss potential solutions, including closing the loop on follow up of abnormal diagnostic test results, and provide action-oriented recommendations to support improvements to reduce patient harm.
