Purpose & overview: Provide an overview of the application of telehealth in internal medicine subspecialty practices.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss nuances in communication that impact telehealth visits (the Weight Wellness talk will focus heavily on overcoming communication barriers for establishing patient rapport via telehealth).
- Describe the utility of telehealth in performing a comprehensive physical examination for heart failure patients.
- Describe utilization of telehealth for providing remote diabetes care. Discuss challenges of providing diabetes care with the lack of an integrated electronic health record system with different devices used for monitoring diabetes.
- Describe implementation of telehealth in a specialty clinic and its impact on non-face to face encounters.
