EM2103G "Chronic Kidney Disease: More than Fluid and Electrolyte Issues" (IM GR-031921)
The purpose of this lecture is to acquaint the audience with the pre-eminent role of altered mineral metabolism in the accelerated cardiovascular risk and death in patients with chronic kidney disease. The talk will cover the prevalence of chronic kidney disease, the manifestations of the altered mineral metabolism of chronic kidney disease, the links between mineral bone disorder and cardiovascular disease in this population, and the ongoing research at UTSW to address this complex disorder.

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Identify cardiovascular disease as the major cause of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease
