Purpose and Overview
The purpose of this talk is to provide a brief history of trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and general background of our current state of practice for severe aortic stenosis. In additional to established indications for tricuspid aortic stenosis and patients appropriate for this technology, we will also discuss clinical and experimental use of TAVR for bicuspid aortic valve disease, primary aortic insufficiency, and moderate aortic stenosis.

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Understanding the staging of aortic valve disease and how this can be used to identify patients for referral to general cardiology or valve clinic
- Understand the expanding use of TAVR for bicuspid aortic valve disease
- Discuss clinical trial opportunities for patients with primary aortic insufficiency and moderate aortic stenosis
