Purpose and Overview
Health disparities are multifactorial. The way patients engage with their care can be deeply impacted by the way we interact with them as medical providers. Each case we will explore today highlights how interactions with our patients could improve their patient experience that effects their actions, and potentially their outcomes.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Be aware of different ways patients care can be negatively or positively impacted by the way we as physicians interact with them.
- Know strategies to identify and improve low health literacy in individual patients.
- Know strategies to improve interactions with patients who come from different cultural backgrounds, have low literacy, or seek care for recurrent pain crises.
