Purpose and Overview

The goals of this lecture are to provide the audience with an understanding of the impact of metabolic dysfunction on asthma outcomes and manegement and review existing and novel treatment strategies for patients with asthma and metabolic comorbidity.

Target Audience

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss impact of metabolic dysfunction on asthma outcomes and management strategies.
  • Understand the benefit of weight loss through lifestyle modifications and bariatric surgery on asthma outcomes.
  • Identify novel treatment strategies targeting metabolic pathways for asthma.
