Purpose and Overview
The purpose of this session is to review the role of inflammation for increased risk of cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the general population, focused on evidence from studies in RA.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Recognize limitations of general population-based atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk estimators in rheumatoid arthritis
- RA and other inflammatory conditions
- Describe shared inflammatory pathways of risk in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis
