EM1509M "Education: The Missing Link in Quality Improvement" (IM GR-091815)
The purpose of this lecture is to consider the impact of education as a quality improvement strategy. Traditional educational approaches are rarely powerful enough to translate to the clinical environment and improve patient care. However, rigorous education - featuring educational "best practices" such as deliberate practice and mastery learning - can successfully boost clinical skills and improve downstream patient outcomes. Many examples of educational programs that impact patient care quality will be reviewed.
Target Audience
UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, commnity physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
