Michael Fanning, MPAS, PA-C
Michael Fanning, M.P.A.S., PA-C, is a Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is also the Lead Advanced Practice Provider for Internal Medicine Subspecialties including: Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, and Blood Disorders. Mr. Fanning's clinical focus is in Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases, Infectious Complications of Surgery, Staphylococcus aureus infections, and recurrent urinary tract infections.
Mr. Fanning started his medical career in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Medic. He was deployed twice to Iraq; his military awards include Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Combat Medic Badge. He later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a Minor in Chemistry at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. He then earned his Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions in 2015. Mr. Fanning is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants since 2015. He started his PA career at UT Southwestern working with the Division of Infectious Disease, Department of Internal Medicine, in 2016. He transitioned to the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in 2020 to learn about and experience the surgical side of medicine with a focus on hip fractures, geriatric trauma, foot and ankle fractures, and various musculoskeletal infections. He returned to the Division of Infectious Diseases as the Lead Advanced Practice Provider for Internal Medicine Subspecialties in November 2022.
