240_ Placenta Accreta Spectrum Multidisciplinary Team Conference

Tuesday, July 16, 2024

12 noon to 1 pm

Team’s Meeting

Course Director:  Chris Herrera, M.D.

Purpose and Content:

This meeting is a comprehensive multidisciplinary case review of current and delivered patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders. Attendees will learn about screening for PAS, the diagnostic criteria on ultrasound and MRI that contribute to the diagnosis of PAS, pre-operative planning and coordination for care of patients with prenatal suspicion of PAS, intra-operative findings and management of PAS (both planned and unanticipated), and pathologic presentations consistent with PAS. Attendees will also participate in QAPI for patient safety and quality case review to meet requirements for maternal levels of care. In addition, new literature regarding diagnosis and management of PAS is reviewed as available for group educational awareness and discussion to enhance our multidisciplinary team management.

Target Audience:

Obstetrics (OB and MFM physicians, mid-level practitioners), radiology, gynecologic oncology, general surgery, neonatology, pathology, transfusion medicine, antepartum nursing, OR personnel, patient safety and quality team members

Educational Objectives:

1.             There is a specialized skill set required for PAS imaging interpretation.

2.             PAS cases are rare and so knowledge of their management can be limited based on experience. Despite institution protocols, not everyone is as facile in their applications.

3.             PAS cases carry a high potential for maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Prenatal diagnosis and a multidisciplinary team approach as facilitated by this meeting enhances maternal outcomes and team preparedness

Educational Method:

Slide format, presentation with discussion of cases
