Summary: Even though graduate and post-graduate medical education for a career in general surgery is extensive and rigorous, longitudinal observation studies suggest gaps in the provision of tools and guidance regarding strategies to prevent burn out during future careers. This presentation is designed to highlight this fact, explore contributing factors and look for strategies and solutions that can assist general surgery trainees in the future.
