ABOUT THE COURSE

The purpose of this conference is to introduce new patient care strategies and techniques in cardiac care, stroke management, prehospital trauma care and pediatric care. Share with attendees and faculty cutting edge information and advances in EMS research, management issues and patient care. Prepare participants for disaster situations by having those who have experienced actual disaster challenges share with the audience what worked for them in a those stressful situations. Exchange protocol ideas between services in other states and counties. Discuss fiscal and/or administrative issues affecting the cost and operations of EMS systems and learn what works with different sized or configured systems.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is designed for Paramedics, EMT's, First Responders, EMS System Directors, Fire Chiefs, Managers, Medical Directors and Educators, as well as Emergency Nurses, Researchers, Physicians and policy makers interested in EMS, Trauma & Resuscitation, and Related State-of-the-Art Investigations & Care Delivery across the United States.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Examine the unique mechanisms of injury as well as the resulting impact of these circumstances on triage procedures and hospital capabilities.
  • Explain the various effect modifiers in clinical trials of cardiac arrest and trauma as well as classify several examples of best practice studies that have been altered by confounding variables.
  • Describe the optimal combination of chest compression rate (CCR) and depth (CCD) during CPR and articulate the rationale for aggressively using CPR feedback tools to optimize rate and depth.
  • Discuss the differences between the numerous types of supraglottic airway devices.
  • Examine the limitations of several gold standard RCT studies that found no proof of effectiveness for certain resuscitation techniques and assess the value and/or cost effectiveness of those techniques in the context of the confounding variables present.
  • Describe the scope and current epidemiology and jurisdictional nuances of the opioid crisis and discuss the various clinical techniques and how to prioritize them on-scene and at the hospital.
  • Explain why many MIHC systems have failed and detail some the programs that have been now shown to work in terms of cost-savings, patient satisfaction and population health outcomes.
  • Identify the relative components of time intervals elapsing from stroke symptom onset (SSO) to Stroke Center Arrival (SCA) including delays to calling 9-1-1, time being managed by dispatchers, time to respond, time to get to the patient's side, time on-scene and, of course, transport intervals.
  • Describe costs and evaluate the overall effectiveness of FDA-required Public Disclosure as an exception to Informed Consent (EFIC).
  • Discuss the caveats about when TXA is effective and when it may be detrimental (and why).
